The U-CONTROL UCA222 from Behringer is a low-cost solution for getting audio in and out of a computer. The USB 1.1 interface is USB bus powered and features two analog RCA phono inputs for connecting any line-level device, such as a mixer or tape deck, and two analog RCA phono outputs for connecting active speakers or studio monitors.
The interface also provides a stereo S/PDIF output on an optical connector. Headphone monitoring is via a stereo mini-jack with a dedicated volume control. No special setup or additional drivers are required, and wide computer operating system compatibility is available for both the Mac and Windows platforms. The interface includes a large selection of audio software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DJ Bronf from This thing is PERFECT! This is one of my favorite products by Behringer. I'm currently using it to connect my CDJs/Mixer to my PC.
I use it to record, as well as stream on several internet radio sites. When I first set up the product, I failed to install the drivers so the sound quality was very poor. It took me awhile to realize that I needed the drivers because the instructions the product came with were not clear. The product came with two music production CDs, and no where did it say that there were drivers on it.
Once I installed the ASIO drivers the Audio Interface was transferring perfect sound! It's cheap, but a very solid product. Rated 3 out of 5 by Audiophile from Useful device I purchased this to digitize the music I have on cassette tapes. Having downloaded the latest version of Audacity, I tried this unit using the output from a walkman.

Am quite satisfied with the quality and it serves the purpose for which I purchased this device. Note that you will have to download some device drivers from the Behringer webpage for the USB output to be used properly. It was not a simple plug and play as advertised. You also have to get a plug-in application to save files as MP3s. Overall, a very useful product. Similar to my previous experiences, purchasing this from B&H was a breeze. It was delivered within three days of placing order in good shape.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Workbench30040 from Recommend for Audacity Audacity users seem to find this a good, inexpensive solution for running stereo sound into a computer that lacks direct soundcard input. My laptop only has a mono mike input so I needed something like this for recording keyboard and electronic drums. Only problem initially was input volume was WAY too high and you can't control that from inside Audacity. On Windows 7 had to go through Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Manage Audio Devices, Recording, USB Audio Codec, Properties and change the microphone level there. Reduced it from 100 to about 6! Otherwise, seems pretty solid.
Haven't played much with the bundled EnergyXT software. Rated 5 out of 5 by MaxxDoubt Drummer from Easy and inexpessive way to interface The interface worked instantly with my computer. No settings had to be changed, it was truly plug and play.
I am using it to interface a Behringer mixer to my computer for recording. The software that came with it is good for a beginner like me. Be sure to go to the Behringer web site and get the unlock code for EnergyXT2.5 or you will not be able to save any projects. The code is free as long as you have a valid product(which this is) and it's serial number. The only thing you may find little disappointing is that you can only record one track at a time, but if you can live with that, it is an easy and inexpensive way to interface an instrument to a computer. Rated 5 out of 5 by Jeremy from Great for Transferring Casettes I bought this product to transfer some old casette tapes to digital format for use on a company website. When I took it out of the box, I simply connect the tape deck to it using an RCA cable, fired up Audacity on my computer, and it transferred without any problem.
I also used the headphone jack on the UCA222 to make sure the audio was coming through fine, and that helped as well. For my rather simple need, this was a much easier and much cheaper option than buying a casette deck with a built-in USB. Rated 5 out of 5 by East Bay Jay from Behringer's UCA222 rules! The Behringer UCA222 allows you to record signal from an analog source directly into your computer. I use mine for music recording and it's a winner.
No installation is necessary. You plug your source and monitoring into the left and right in and left and right out stereo RCA jacks, plus the usb into your computer and you're done.
The UCA222 also has a headphone jack and headphone volume control. No noise, no signal loss and such low latency as to be imperceptible make this device almost perfect. I would like to see a 1/4 headphone jack versus the 1/8 but that's my only complaint. This thing is killer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ulysses from UCA222 Works Great I bought the Behringer UCA222 because I was having noise and humming problems with my connection, between the mixer and the desktop computer. The built-in soundcard in my computer is poor quality. The UCA222 essentially acts as an external soundcard via the USB interface. The UCA222 has two channels: input and output. It also comes with a headphone jack for monitoring.
With the UCA222, my mixer and computer setup is much more simpler now, using regular RCA cables. No more Y cables and converters. The only thing to watch out for is making sure you set the correct sound levels from the mixer when recording on your desktop with Audacity.
Wings xp 5 emulator. It's an excellent buy. Worth every penny. Rated 5 out of 5 by Cornfield Kid from Simple. And simply GREAT!
I wanted to do some digital recording and escape from a four track cassette unit. I have a Behringer Xenex802 mixer that I needed to interface with my computer to achieve my goal. The UCA222 is exactly what I needed, and the software it comes with is also very helpful. All I needed to do was hook-up my mixer as usual, run an RCA to RCA line from my Line Out to this little box, plug it into a USB slot, and I was off to the races. It'a as simple as using the old analog machine and cuts out the process(es) of transfering tape to computer. This is the ticket if you want to use a USB connection for recording.

Please provide more information. To what would you like to upgrade it? Since OSX Mavericks was just announced, I'm going to assume that's what you're wanting to upgrade to. Not all Macs can run Mavericks. Mavericks Capable MacsMavericks, like its predecessor Mountain Lion, requires one of the following Macs with at least 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of available hard drive space:. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer). MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer).
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer). MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer). Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer). Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer).
Xserve (Early 2009) If your Mac isn't one of the ones listed above, you won't be able to upgrade. If you have an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini model that was originally released in Early/Mid 2006, the latest version of Mac OS X your system supports is Snow Leopard. Oct 23, 2013. You must have the following computer to download Mountain Lion: iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) Xserve (Early 2009) Once that is done, you must be updated to the most recent version of either Snow Leopard or Lion. If you don't have either of these operating systems (which is highly unlikely considering the other computers should have them, but I digress) then you will need to get them before Mountain Lion. After that, go to the Apple Store and download Mountain Lion! Speed up filevault decryption.
Aug 01, 2012. You've not said what the message is but I suspect that the software is too old to be used on the macbook if it is running OS X 10.7 (Lion) or if you are running snow leopard, it may be a non-intel version of the software. It may be asking you to instal rosetta which would be on your snow leopard instal disk. If the Nikon website does not have updated software you could try vuescan which according to this page does work with the film scanner and you can download a demo version which you can trial before you buy.
Hope this helps. Jul 02, 2012.
